The Art Studio Mumbai nurtures the capacity for learning and experimentation in art. We guide students to develop their personal expression, to become visually literate citizens or to simply enjoy the process of creativity.

We emphasize a collaborative learning environment across a wide range of disciplines. Learning, exploring, experimenting while having fun and expanding their artistic passion are at the centre of our dynamic curriculum. Through exhibition, studio lessons and critiques, The Art Studio Mumbai promotes curiosity and creative risk-taking among its students.

The Art Studio Mumbai art program encompasses a broad range of subjects designed to meet the needs of amateur, intermediate and advanced students and help them explore their artistic and creative potential to the fullest. The subjects cover drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media as well as new media. Students are exposed to art history and contemporary art as a natural extension of their studio practice. A huge library of art books allows students to enhance knowledge and discovery to unlock their unique self-expression.

Purnima Sampat, the founder, and director of the studio is a professional artist who has taught Art and Design in India as well as the US for more than 30 years. She has helped students prepare portfolios for specialist fields in art, design, and architecture with consistently excellent results.

In 2009, Purnima started Art4All at Marine Drive, Mumbai. Within a few years, due to an ever-increasing interest in the preparation of art, design, and architecture portfolios from students in Mumbai and across the globe, then she started The Art Studio Mumbai.

Hi, my name is Pooja Gala, and I am a mother of two daughters, both of whom did their portfolio with Ms. Sampat’s guidance. My older daughter completed her portfolio in 2019 and was accepted at multiple art schools like Pratt, Parsons, SAIC, and SCAD with scholarships. She is currently studying architecture at Pratt where she received a scholarship of $21,000 a year. My younger daughter is currently in process of completing her portfolio. As a parent, I was not worried about their portfolios, where it was about completing it in time or the quality of the work. Ms. Sampat’s process and working style have trained them to conceptualize artworks and present them using various mediums, materials, and styles. I did my Art Teacher’s Training course with Ms Sampat at The Art Studio Mumbai. I found the training to be very comprehensive. We learnt how to make lesson plans, curriculum planning and also how to execute the lessons with kids. Right from learning Art History of ancient times to the Art in modern times and contemporary art, we covered all of it, and also how to teach it to the class. The course has taught us to think beyond just drawing and painting to create art that uses pure imagination. We learnt about how children develop in the arts, how to organise museum visits, and field trips and also integrate art with various other subjects. The studio lessons were a lot of fun - we did the drawing, painting, collage, 3D art, fabric and fibre, puppets and masks. I have thoroughly enjoyed every class immensely. Thank you Ms Sampat for providing such a unique and memorable experience.

She not only helps us to refine our skills but also to develop our simple ideas into fascinating pieces. Her studio is my favorite place to work. Everyone, there is always thinking like an artist, and just being surrounded by art enthusiasts makes painting so much more fun. We often do critiques on our work, which allows us to gain a deeper understanding of our own work. One of my favorite things that we do is visit galleries and different art shows. We get a chance to analyze artworks as well as interact with the artists and curators. This has helped me develop a greater understanding of art as a whole. It is also very stimulating for us to start thinking differently. It’s been just about a year since my daughter, Alifia, a 9th grader from J.B.Petit joined her art classes. The most beautiful thing about the class is the freedom and the joy my daughter experiences while expressing herself through art. There is no fixed rule. There is beauty and perfection in all her imperfect art pieces. She learns about different artists, Indian and international, and their styles, through books, gallery visits n interactions with different artists.
